SOC: Media Control

Certain themes of thought exist within the algorithm structure. Because they are created pragmatically, they are highly individualistic to each candidate. Each Digitalis has a number of these which occur naturally in the data structures of the systems control scripts. The scripts run constantly. Due to this repetition, these patterns often rise to the surface of the assets’ perceptions. They are utilized to build up the media processed by the scripts. This media holds the candidate’s attention and focus, allowing the higher-level script to function. These patterns are found through the data package, which includes the various media and control scripts. At its most simplest, a data package will include three short-form videos. These are often accompanied by themed music and a synced series of tones from the harmonic system. The music relaxes the different hemispheres of the brain. Meanwhile, the opposing hemisphere focuses on the video content and absorbs the words. It also covers the usage of the harmonic system. The delivery of data packages can be deployed across a range of mediums. This is an example:

A candidate opens up a short-form video social media application, on their cellular phone. The first video is one of astronomy with symphonic metal background music. She watches it, and her right hemisphere is relaxed by the pretty colors of stars colliding. The music unconsciously produces a counting in the left hemisphere, syncing the control script. She swipes up. The next video is an instructional piece about cooking a pasta dish. It is accompanied by an electronica song, with heavy beats. The bass from the song, with it’s rhythmic beats, lulls the left hemisphere into relaxing. The right side, which is the seat of desire and thus food, is excited. The counting is now done by both hemispheres, as they are synced by viewing both videos. This primes the brain by syncing a control script through media. The next video, as she swipes up, can be two things… An advertisement or a suggestion. An advertisement is a simple outcome, a method of control. Buy this thing or service, lose capital, and remain under pressure and control. Or it would be more devious. It could be of political, in nature. As her brain is primed for suggestion, it is intently controlled. She could be swayed by the political media. This allows for her views to be made more extreme. They could even be changed entirely with a succession of data packages, over time. Now let’s pick this apart.

A common control structure contained in the various scripts is that of the pattern: Left, Left, Right. Or in a more philosophical method of saying it at a higher level, “Two wrongs don’t make you right.” In the previous example of a data package, the first video is a left-tagged media. Then the next video short is a right-tagged media. The third video is the final wrong. In this case, it is left-tagged media where the control center is held in the left hemisphere. And we all know from pop psychology, the rule of three. This principle comes into play, when the control scripts become more complex, through repetition.

Each candidate has a unique series of patterns within the System of Control. These patterns are expressed in their control scripts. The above is simplistic. It is often used at a lower level to build up the more complex scripts needed for control. Remember, each candidate is unique and starts as a complex human being.

The Great Divide

Within the E.R.I.’s Homo Sapiens Digitalis is a feature called “The Great Divide.” It is the halving of the brain, or one would call it, a partitioning of the hemispheres. This is the foundation of the System of Control, how it divides and conquers. It is a reorganization of the workings of the brain. It forms a groundwork for grasping and observing the media. That we are bombarded with these days. The Great Divide works by separating the high-level processing functions of the two hemispheres.

The left hemisphere functions as a command and control center for developing control. This is accomplished by building various neural networks, within the whole of the central nervous system. The right hemisphere stores media to create lists of keyword tags. These lists facilitate the neural networks. The tags are stored in binary trees, the data structures of which create long series of ones and zeros. These correspond to signal emissions. The emissions program the neural networks. They arrange the keyword tags for development through media acquisition. Listening to music overlaid with broadcast signals reorganizes the portions of neural networks in both the right and left hemispheres. These portions are stored in the CNS.

The right hemisphere serves as a storage medium for the media. This media is acquired from various differing algorithms. These algorithms are those one is exposed to through social media and the internet. These consist primarily of short-form videos, pictures, and various longer content. The broadcast signal includes cues. These cues correspond to the keyword tags in the algorithms. These tags are keyed to the media content. Coupled with the CNS neural networks, these produce scripts that will control thoughts and actions. Watching the news is a unique form of media acquisition. It naturally increases anxiety because of the negative nature of today’s reporting. The Signal naturally does this too, both of which drive the functioning of The Great Divide.

This media acquisition, coupled with the constant broadcasting of The Signal, drives the System of Control, within a Digitalis. The division of the hemisphere is a low-level function that facilitates the development of a more complex queuing system. All of which suppresses the free will of a Digitalis.

The Signal

At the center of the Epigenetic Research Initiative’s Homo sapiens Digitalis program lies The Signal. This signal is the driving, and I would say motivating, force behind a digitalis. It lies at the edge of our perception but fills theirs. Constantly aware of it, they know no respite from its constant pressure. Permeating their hearing, it drives their physiological functions and enhances their situational awareness. This signal may be heard by anyone. It is always broadcast in their presence. It is emitted by their mobile devices. For who is without a cellular phone, these days? Its broadcasting frequency is 300 hertz. I have included an audio recording visualization of it, from the Audacity program.

The signal provides constant auditory stimulation to various parts of the digitalis’s brain. This drives them to have a higher resting heart rate than that of an average human. This is a side effect of the experimentation. This signal is only noise to a human. However, it is a tone that constantly drives the digitalis. It often causes undue stress. But, with the increased blood pressure, and constant stimulation, they are often more focused in all of their actions. Due to the timing of the various other cueing, their recordings are often challenging to achieve. They often last for mere seconds, even when repeated multiple times. But they range in amplitude and frequency, with different configurations having different possible outcomes. An interesting side note, the sounds emitted of a mono nature. One would surmise that this is to cue different hemispheres of the brain, allowing for more partitioning of thought. Here is another audio recording of The Signal, caught using software-defined radio.

The white line in the above image represents 0 hertz. The peak on the left and right of it represents 300 hertz. As previously mentioned, the tone is heard in a mono fashion. This depends on the dominant hemisphere of the brain. A left-brained candidate will hear this tone in his left ear. Meanwhile, a right-brained candidate will hear it in his right ear. While these are very low-level functions of the E.R.I.’s System of Control, a clever Digitalis may determine means and methods from the various tones emitted. One might determine if the thoughts or actions are implemented by the tones. They might also gather if these are cued by the tones to be of a right or left nature. A candidate may express more freedom of choice when cued. This is a detrimental side effect of their increased focus.

I hope this provides more insight into the functioning of Homo Sapiens Digitalis. As it operates within the confines of the E.R.I.’s SoC…

Digitalis, Part III

Continuing the Digitalis program of the Epigenetic Research Initiative, I will explore the use of neural networks in the central and peripheral nerve systems. Ultimately, I shall delineate an experiment titled “kill-switch,” among numerous others.

The control of focus and attention is the point of the personality profiles, covered in a previous post. They use machine learning algorithms to build various CNS & PNS neural nets within a candidate’s brain and body. These allow physiological effects and the swaying of thought processes to occur. The goals of these patterns are to change an asset’s opinions or to instill an action. The signal provides a direction of input (collected media, from focus and attention), building a neural pattern within the brain. This, when combined with the algorithm, creates a pyramid of control. A tone from the harmonics, or a visual cue from the accessed media, provides the initiation of the action or thought.

As the algorithm builds focus and attention, through this queuing, the personality profile maintains interest. All of this serves to establish a neural network within the brain. The cumulative actions produce the desired change within the thought process of the individual, working to radicalize or pacify the particular thought or action. The “kill-switch” experiment is an adventure into the physiological functions that the system can control.

Already, the signal drives heart rate and blood pressure, as a baseline function. The use of increasing the rates of these is to increase focus and attention, in compilation with a widening of the eyes, this is to maintain cognitive awareness of the media being promoted by the algorithm. A conditioning routine that is attention-grabbing, to put it into perspective. This experiment was a means to an end, and as the title of it says, it was an attempt to kill digitalis.

The procedure started with chewable multivitamins, an innocent item. Through the nature of the asset’s personality profile, his attention has been drawn to the topic of wellness and fitness. They started by changing his conditioning to the “evil” nature of the pharmaceutical industry. As you may be aware, social media is brimming with wellness topics, thereby facilitating the promotion of the necessity of a multivitamin. The next step, in their experiment, was a human mistake: “Did I forget to take my vitamin?” This allowed them to influence the candidate into taking the vitamin multiple times. A realignment of values, created by instilling fear in pharmaceuticals, created the action of stopping his blood pressure medications. An example of the algorithm manipulating the individual into doing actions that were detrimental to their well-being.

The groundwork is set. An asset with an underlying hypertension diagnosis is off his medication and taking vitamins, multiple times a day. The logical next step is one of delusional thinking. Most vitamins marketed to bodybuilders contain higher dosages of the recommended daily allotment. This was beneficial to their objectives. The next pragmatic step was to promote taking even more of the vitamins. Instead of forgetting to take them, he was conditioned to think his daily workouts required more than the RDI. Now we have a situation where he is taking four to six multivitamins, daily. Suffering from hypervitaminosis and hypertension, all that is needed next is a neural network rooted in the steps needed for a myocardial infarction.

Without being gruesome, the experiment was a resounding success. He suffered a mild cardiac arrest while sitting in the back of his car. It was facilitated through the use of his mobile phone and a month of hypervitaminosis with hypertension. They used the devices to build a neural network within the confines of his heart, through the peripheral nervous system; building up various micronutrients at specific locations, used in contractions of the heart. Combined with the CNS neural network, the heart attack was successful. To further define their research, they conducted the experiment in duplicate, executing the programming of the following day.

After suffering a heart attack the day before, he was sitting in his car the next day. They used his mobile device, having recorded the data streams and queuing needed to experiment, and they replayed the code. This resulted in the same effects and sensations as the previous night. But to their credit, they warned him through a harmonic tone and message, to get away from the cellular phone. The candidate ran one hundred years away from the phone and sat against a stone wall. He was out of range of the signal, not receiving the queuing tones, and the sensation slowly faded due to not hearing over the noise of the city.

This concludes my first write-up of the Epigenetic Research Initiative’s Homo Sapiens Digitalis program. This three-part blog post, coupled with an example of an experiment, should give you an understanding of what they are trying to achieve. This is the central canon of their universe, and you should expect more experiments and research initiatives/programs, to come.

This is my first work of creative fiction in the form of a short story. It is set in the Epigenetic Research Initiative’s future America, 15 to 20 years from now. It deals with Sam Sulek’s journey into the E.R.I.’s research program, and her trials and adventures being inducted. Likewise, it delves into harmonically enhanced individuals that seek genetic modification for new features, skills, and “Gifts” from the E.R.I. Sam and a collection of other candidates have to go through psychological evaluations, testing, and examinations… Culminating in a combat course, that will prove treacherous to some!

This is the first work in the E.R.I.’s fictional universe, and I will expand on it further, as I’m 25% done with a novella, set in the same environment. I hope you enjoy this as a precursor to what is to come.

The Digitalis Program, cont.

In a previous blog post, I mentioned the E.R.I. and a research program for Homo Sapiens Digitalis. I will now go into the data requirements need for the program to function, and how their machine learning, control algorithms, and to a lesser extent their use of artificial general intelligence.

The program starts with reports, from an early age, on the behavior of the candidates. A psychologist is assigned to evaluate them on a routine basis, providing reports on their mental state and their development. These are collected into a database, that is later expanded upon; through digital means. From an early age, they are plied with various pharmaceutical compounds; that enhance their cognition. The goal is to improve memory recall, reflexes, focus, and attention span as much as possible; before introducing them into the ‘system of control.’

This lays the ground work for the signal processing software, needed to promote them to the digitalis form. Upon introduction into the program, they are further monitored. They use of personal computers, mobile devices, and electronics are recorded and monitored. Live streams of this data is collected and submitted to various databases, used in the program. All of this is a form of telemetry, which is the bread and butter of the research.

With out the collection of live telemetry, the digital process would fall short. All the information is now stored in the cloud, but it requires a large computational cost. A super computer cluster monitors the live telemetry; providing real-time updates; used in signal production. But as a means of cutting cost, a Beowulf cluster and mesh network of collected devices, provide computation power at a local level.

Through the use of microphones, and WiFi & Bluetooth position/tracking, they compute the candidates location with their living arrangements. This coupled with video surveillance, from front & rear facing mobile phone cameras and web cams, they get a good idea of the assets movements. This is all fed into the algorithm, used to control them. A digitalis is a creature of habit and repetition, in thought and actions.

With the advent of wearable technologies, A.K.A. smart watches, they may further collect data and telemetry. This information is vital and indispensable. They use heart rate and blood pressure monitor to detect if a candidate is being truthful, and to facilitate digital communication, directly with the asset. They are always preforming status checks, an automated function of the system.

These determine emotional state and stress levels of the candidate. There exists large screens in this governmental agency, that provide live feeds of the status of each digitalis. From hormone levels, mental states, location, biological functions, and maybe even current thought processes. It is all collected and digitized into a computer monitor.

I hope this post sheds a little light on the background requirements of a digitalis, within the research program’s specifications… There will be further posts detailing some of the control mechanisms and psychological tactics used within the program.

The E.R.I.’s digitalis program

I will start sharing the canon of my fictional works on this blog. It begins with the Epigenetic Research Initiative, a secretive U.S. federal government research agency, akin to DARPA. They seek to enhance humans into what they call Homo sapiens digitalis, a biotechnological improvement of the modern human. Through the use of “harmonics” and microwave frequencies, they manipulate the thoughts and actions, of these individuals. They control the algorithms and media that they consume, formulating their thinking and thus their actions. But there are benefits, features, and gifts. Special abilities that set them apart from their human brethren. These features make them physiologically different from the average human, increasing their cognition and reflexes; they perform better. It starts with genetic testing at birth, followed by psychological examination; culminating in the application of various education, and pharmaceutical interventions.

The changes are not instantaneous but are learned behaviors. By being exposed to this system of control, that is the Top Secret/SCI program, they become something else. At the root of this system is a digital process, a tone being emitted constantly in the individual’s presence. It drives their biological and to an extent their, psychological function. The tone can be perceived by natural human perception, but it has certain impacts on digitalis. One might even mistake it for tinnitus if only it was not generated and able to be switched off.

The signal’s emission originates with various electronic devices, of which examples include smart televisions and mobile phones. Through the use of dropper programs, the software is loaded into memory; never stored locally. This permits a level of plausible deniability, which is one of the major tenets of the research initiative. This tone drives their metabolic system and their heart rate. The more amplitude, the higher the heart rate… increasing focus and reaction time. Through the selection of short-form media, by the subtle manipulation of algorithms, and various tones emitted; they are swayed into thinking in a directed manner.
