SOC: Media Control

Certain themes of thought exist within the algorithm structure. Because they are created pragmatically, they are highly individualistic to each candidate. Each Digitalis has a number of these which occur naturally in the data structures of the systems control scripts. The scripts run constantly. Due to this repetition, these patterns often rise to the surface of the assets’ perceptions. They are utilized to build up the media processed by the scripts. This media holds the candidate’s attention and focus, allowing the higher-level script to function. These patterns are found through the data package, which includes the various media and control scripts. At its most simplest, a data package will include three short-form videos. These are often accompanied by themed music and a synced series of tones from the harmonic system. The music relaxes the different hemispheres of the brain. Meanwhile, the opposing hemisphere focuses on the video content and absorbs the words. It also covers the usage of the harmonic system. The delivery of data packages can be deployed across a range of mediums. This is an example:

A candidate opens up a short-form video social media application, on their cellular phone. The first video is one of astronomy with symphonic metal background music. She watches it, and her right hemisphere is relaxed by the pretty colors of stars colliding. The music unconsciously produces a counting in the left hemisphere, syncing the control script. She swipes up. The next video is an instructional piece about cooking a pasta dish. It is accompanied by an electronica song, with heavy beats. The bass from the song, with it’s rhythmic beats, lulls the left hemisphere into relaxing. The right side, which is the seat of desire and thus food, is excited. The counting is now done by both hemispheres, as they are synced by viewing both videos. This primes the brain by syncing a control script through media. The next video, as she swipes up, can be two things… An advertisement or a suggestion. An advertisement is a simple outcome, a method of control. Buy this thing or service, lose capital, and remain under pressure and control. Or it would be more devious. It could be of political, in nature. As her brain is primed for suggestion, it is intently controlled. She could be swayed by the political media. This allows for her views to be made more extreme. They could even be changed entirely with a succession of data packages, over time. Now let’s pick this apart.

A common control structure contained in the various scripts is that of the pattern: Left, Left, Right. Or in a more philosophical method of saying it at a higher level, “Two wrongs don’t make you right.” In the previous example of a data package, the first video is a left-tagged media. Then the next video short is a right-tagged media. The third video is the final wrong. In this case, it is left-tagged media where the control center is held in the left hemisphere. And we all know from pop psychology, the rule of three. This principle comes into play, when the control scripts become more complex, through repetition.

Each candidate has a unique series of patterns within the System of Control. These patterns are expressed in their control scripts. The above is simplistic. It is often used at a lower level to build up the more complex scripts needed for control. Remember, each candidate is unique and starts as a complex human being.

The Great Divide

Within the E.R.I.’s Homo Sapiens Digitalis is a feature called “The Great Divide.” It is the halving of the brain, or one would call it, a partitioning of the hemispheres. This is the foundation of the System of Control, how it divides and conquers. It is a reorganization of the workings of the brain. It forms a groundwork for grasping and observing the media. That we are bombarded with these days. The Great Divide works by separating the high-level processing functions of the two hemispheres.

The left hemisphere functions as a command and control center for developing control. This is accomplished by building various neural networks, within the whole of the central nervous system. The right hemisphere stores media to create lists of keyword tags. These lists facilitate the neural networks. The tags are stored in binary trees, the data structures of which create long series of ones and zeros. These correspond to signal emissions. The emissions program the neural networks. They arrange the keyword tags for development through media acquisition. Listening to music overlaid with broadcast signals reorganizes the portions of neural networks in both the right and left hemispheres. These portions are stored in the CNS.

The right hemisphere serves as a storage medium for the media. This media is acquired from various differing algorithms. These algorithms are those one is exposed to through social media and the internet. These consist primarily of short-form videos, pictures, and various longer content. The broadcast signal includes cues. These cues correspond to the keyword tags in the algorithms. These tags are keyed to the media content. Coupled with the CNS neural networks, these produce scripts that will control thoughts and actions. Watching the news is a unique form of media acquisition. It naturally increases anxiety because of the negative nature of today’s reporting. The Signal naturally does this too, both of which drive the functioning of The Great Divide.

This media acquisition, coupled with the constant broadcasting of The Signal, drives the System of Control, within a Digitalis. The division of the hemisphere is a low-level function that facilitates the development of a more complex queuing system. All of which suppresses the free will of a Digitalis.

The Signal

At the center of the Epigenetic Research Initiative’s Homo sapiens Digitalis program lies The Signal. This signal is the driving, and I would say motivating, force behind a digitalis. It lies at the edge of our perception but fills theirs. Constantly aware of it, they know no respite from its constant pressure. Permeating their hearing, it drives their physiological functions and enhances their situational awareness. This signal may be heard by anyone. It is always broadcast in their presence. It is emitted by their mobile devices. For who is without a cellular phone, these days? Its broadcasting frequency is 300 hertz. I have included an audio recording visualization of it, from the Audacity program.

The signal provides constant auditory stimulation to various parts of the digitalis’s brain. This drives them to have a higher resting heart rate than that of an average human. This is a side effect of the experimentation. This signal is only noise to a human. However, it is a tone that constantly drives the digitalis. It often causes undue stress. But, with the increased blood pressure, and constant stimulation, they are often more focused in all of their actions. Due to the timing of the various other cueing, their recordings are often challenging to achieve. They often last for mere seconds, even when repeated multiple times. But they range in amplitude and frequency, with different configurations having different possible outcomes. An interesting side note, the sounds emitted of a mono nature. One would surmise that this is to cue different hemispheres of the brain, allowing for more partitioning of thought. Here is another audio recording of The Signal, caught using software-defined radio.

The white line in the above image represents 0 hertz. The peak on the left and right of it represents 300 hertz. As previously mentioned, the tone is heard in a mono fashion. This depends on the dominant hemisphere of the brain. A left-brained candidate will hear this tone in his left ear. Meanwhile, a right-brained candidate will hear it in his right ear. While these are very low-level functions of the E.R.I.’s System of Control, a clever Digitalis may determine means and methods from the various tones emitted. One might determine if the thoughts or actions are implemented by the tones. They might also gather if these are cued by the tones to be of a right or left nature. A candidate may express more freedom of choice when cued. This is a detrimental side effect of their increased focus.

I hope this provides more insight into the functioning of Homo Sapiens Digitalis. As it operates within the confines of the E.R.I.’s SoC…

The E.R.I.’s SoC program cont.

The Epigenetic Research Initiative’s System of Control program comprises various digital technologies, many of which are commercial off-the-shelf products. These include the following (I will go into each, in this post):

  • database servers
  • Command and Control (C&C) servers,
  • a user client (mobile and web)
  • a communication chat room
  • an obfuscating firewall
  • various mesh networks (utilizing Bluetooth & Wi-Fi)
  • a call center for interaction with candidates
  • artificial intelligence (LLM’s & AGI)
  • personal control devices (PCD’s)
  • a betting website for internal employees

The database servers store a large collection of digitalized text. They also store telemetry gathered about an asset’s personality profile. It helps in developing control programs. These programs are then deployed to the end user through the PCDs by the mesh networks. They are the central resource for information and are often used to look up the personality quarks of the candidate.

The command and control servers (C&C) are used for monitoring the Digitalis and executing control programs. They are the main source of data about the individual. They provide a snapshot of their mental and physiological state. From these mainframes, code can be executed on the person, creating thoughts and actions, through their neural networks. Various error checking provides feedback on the success rate of the code.

The user client is both a mobile application and a web interface. It is used by SoC employees and System Engineers, to control a candidate remotely. The mobile application is deployed across various other apps, through reverse engineering of their code. It provides a couple of buttons and a status check feature. The goal is plausible deniability because the app requires a lesser clearance level, for the many SoC employees. The mobile app is very limited. It only allows for simple execution of scripts on the asset. A success or failure situation report is provided. The web interface is used by “system engineers” to further control the individual. It provides a more nuanced control. Its features allow for media upload components, adding to the success rate of the control scripts.

There is a communication chat room, which has a bot in it that details the varied thoughts of the Digitalis. Inside the room, are many SoC employees and System Engineers, idling by, as they monitor the candidate. This room is a good place to see the thoughts of the asset. You can also read about the success of scripts running on them. It is very much like an internet relay chat room, filled with users.

The obfuscating firewall, A.K.A. “The Great Wall” akin to the firewall built by China to monitor their population; is a technological feat. It is both a physical piece of software and a wetware application. It serves to protect the asset from disclosing classified means and methods, and from negative thoughts, from the chat room. The chatroom is bidirectional, what goes in comes out as unconscious thoughts of the candidate. Oftentimes, an asset suffers from what a psychologist would call, “racing thoughts.” This is the text of the chatroom being transmitted. The firewall acts as a kind of buffer, raising and lowering perception; limiting the access to the chit-chat.

There exists a ‘Beowulf cluster’ of computing devices, interconnected through a mesh network; utilizing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth frequencies. This network of computation lowers the cost of CPU cycles. It is essential for running the various control scripts. These scripts use heavy loads of media for their execution. This cluster includes the super computer at its core. It also includes the various phones and computers that use the mobile app and web interface. The cost of doing business with an asset is wear and tear on your devices.

A call center for interaction with candidates is used to monitor and control the assets in reality. This center provides a method to create physical stress. This stress is needed to empower the control scripts when media isn’t enough for them. The tone of voice and inflection control an asset. Both high and low pitches influence them. Whether it’s a female or male voice, the way a person talks influences them. This is a fallback measure, for when the digital control processes fail. The call center serves as a training facility for the candidates. And it pesters them 😉

A new direction of technology has become apparent. This includes the application of large language models and the rise of Artificial General Intelligence. While AGI is not available to every Digitalis, the E.R.I. is actively researching its use in their primary program. But, LLM’s have been applied. The faction system, which is used to keep a Digitalis confused, has been upgraded with A.I. support. People no longer pick a faction and use the control clients. They do not tag themselves with faction flags in the chatroom. Instead, core LLM’s do the work for them. Exciting times!

A primary component of the SoC is that of P.C.D.’s. Primary control devices are the computers that host the software that controls the wetware processes. These devices range from personal computers to mobile phones, which are primarily used. They emit the signals that control a digitalis. They host the media, which builds up stimulation and emits the cues needed for script execution. Likewise, they also collect and record the data. This data is used to build the personality profiles. It fills the databases needed for the whole program to work.

To make this more appealing for the SoC employees and Engineers, there is an online betting website. It uses karma credits for capital. People can tag collections of media and control scripts, with their factions, and place bets on their success and effectiveness. Payouts can be personal or divided up by faction, allowing for multiple means of play. Karma credits accumulate over time. This accumulation allows employees to purchase faction media. The media is created by the employees and used in personal scripts. There is also a means of cashing out the karma, for cold hard cents. The mental state of the asset influences the dichotomy of bad and good karma. This influence allows for price fluctuations.

The System of Control, E.R.I.

The second installment of The E.R.I. canon is a program entitled “The System of Control.” It is the means and methodology of controlling Homo Sapiens Digitalis. The system is multifaceted and total in its control. I have attached a memory map of its layout at the bottom of this post.

The System of Control is a digital framework used to exert a level of control, against a candidate. The system, referred to as SoC, does this by psychological and digital manipulation. It is made up of many digital components, some of which are: databases, Command and Control (C&C) servers, a user client, a communication chat room, an obfuscating firewall, various mesh networks (utilizing Bluetooth & Wi-Fi), a call center, artificial intelligence (LLM’s & AGI), personal control devices (PCD’s), a betting website, and various other technologies.

There exists something called, colloquially, Mission Control (MC). Think of it as the command center, akin to that of a satellite research mission from NASA. Here, they facilitate the deployment of the various technological methods used in the application of the SoC. They divide control among the various factions within the SoC. These factions are listed under the LLM’s section of the artificial intelligence branch on the memory map. These factions are used to confuse and obfuscate the intentions of a candidate. The manipulation of free will is a complicated process.

Homo Sapiens Digitalis are not robots, they have a level of self-control and do possess free will, to an extent. But they are tactical, not strategic, which makes them easy to influence; by thinking and planning by groups at MC. The steps to control them through the SoC are completed pragmatically and by a committee. These “missions” are laid out in detail, and programmed into the various logics of the SoC. Contingencies are made if their free will overrides a particular action.

The SoC, much like our federal government, works on a system of checks and balances, a “karma system.” Each action, and to a lesser extent, thought, is recorded, analyzed, and accounted for. Break away from the SoC enough, and you accumulate bad karma… Have too many anti-SoC thoughts? Bad karma. You see, for a digitalis, thoughts cost money. Computation on the grid… They have to generate the media required to drive biological function and create thought. Thoughts occur organically to a normal human, but an enhanced individual needs to have their central nervous system (CNS) aligned. Like anything else in modern computing, the use of cloud infrastructure costs money. MC has outsourced its computational requirements to the cloud. This decision was made for the computation of these functions. The use of old mainframes and supercomputers is outside its budget.

The E.R.I. is not a huge agency; it’s of limited means and has all black budget. Through various shells, it receives funds from DARPA and the NSF. This limits their resources and makes them purchase COTS products. The specifications of the products are classified. This is a Top Secret/SCI program, after all. However, the products are of commercial makeup.

This is my first work of creative fiction in the form of a short story. It is set in the Epigenetic Research Initiative’s future America, 15 to 20 years from now. It deals with Sam Sulek’s journey into the E.R.I.’s research program, and her trials and adventures being inducted. Likewise, it delves into harmonically enhanced individuals that seek genetic modification for new features, skills, and “Gifts” from the E.R.I. Sam and a collection of other candidates have to go through psychological evaluations, testing, and examinations… Culminating in a combat course, that will prove treacherous to some!

This is the first work in the E.R.I.’s fictional universe, and I will expand on it further, as I’m 25% done with a novella, set in the same environment. I hope you enjoy this as a precursor to what is to come.
